Democracy - really?

Alright, I was originally planning on a politics rant later... but today, something made me SUPER angry, and thus decided to write one today.
*Note: Politics is something I find super interesting, mostly people's responses, so don't be surprised if a lot of the things I talk about somehow go back to politics.

Here is a link of an article I read today. If you are too lazy to read it, I'll give you a summary.

Basically, there have been some extreme Republicans in Texas who have thought of a new, "great" way of showing their support of Romney. And how do they plan on going to support Romney? Basically, what they're doing is hanging chairs with American flags (or a NOBAMA poster in one case) from trees or porches. Basically, it's a metaphor for lynching the president.

So, you might be wondering how we got from empty chairs to lynching our first African-American president. Well, here's a history lesson.

In the 1950s, when segregation was still a HUGE deal and the black population was severely oppressed, there were many extreme whites (many in the south) who hung blacks from trees. This was a way to express their opinion of the black population. This practice was called lynching. Now, you know that part of the story.

But, why do we associate the empty chair with President Obama?

That, my friends is because at the Republican National Convention in Florida this year, one speaker was Clint Eastwood. He thought it would be funny to stand there and give his speech to a chair. The chair was dubbed as the "invisible Obama."

Now do you understand why hanging a chair is associated with lynching Obama, which in a historical context, goes back to the practice of lynching blacks.

Now for my rant.

I DO NOT GET HOW THIS IS ACCEPTABLE IN ANY MANNER. It makes me extremely disgusted, AND very embarrassed to be even living in America. I may not be an American citizen, and such acts make me see why I wouldn't want to be. I'm not saying that there aren't good Americans out there, because I know there are and that the good outnumber the bad.

However, these actions are simply inconceivable and horrendous. I don't care what political party you're supporting - because truly that doesn't matter for me. You're entitled to your own opinions. However, you ARE NOT entitled to advertise your political beliefs by making indirect threats to the current president. Especially if they are racially-sensitive threats.

Dislike Obama for all I care. But please show it in an appropriate manner that does not hit deeper than his race. If you don't vote for him, give REASONS why he doesn't deserve the position. SUPPORT your own candidate, don't PUT DOWN the other.

This is why the United States has a bad stigma in many countries. This is why many of my relatives consider Americans the devils. This is why I have no faith in the U.S. future.

However, there are good people out there. :) I have nothing against you'all. Keep up what you're doing, and maybe one day we'll be able to counteract all the terrible things people do.

That is all.

If you read all of it, I appreciate that.
